Call for papers 

Las Jornadas REDES de estudios literarios y culturales latinoamericanos en los países nórdicos promueven el intercambio entre latinoamericanistas con base en los países nórdicos y con aquellxs establecidxs en las Américas, Europa y otras regiones del mundo. Después del primer encuentro en Gotemburgo, Suecia, y el segundo en Trondheim, Noruega, las III Jornadas en Reikiavik reafirman la iniciativa de crear y sostener un foro amplio, descentrado y permanente en torno a los estudios literarios y culturales con foco en América Latina. 

Bajo el título “Reimaginar el futuro. Estéticas y epistemologías contrahegemónicas en América Latina”, el encuentro propone centrar la atención en formas de saber, literarias y artísticas que se han cultivado a contrapelo o en tensión con las de la ciudad letrada y que pueden convertirse en respuestas a la policrisis generada por el proyecto moderno/colonial y el capitaloceno. Comprender estos lenguajes supone cuestionar los marcos teóricos de raíz occidental para, así, identificar y revalidar saberes y prácticas ancestrales con otras genealogías. América Latina es en este sentido un territorio que se revela particularmente fértil para la gestación o consolidación de esas epistemologías de estirpe subalterna que desafían los marcos impuestos por la colonialidad del saber, del ser y del poder. En este contexto, la literatura, las prácticas culturales y las expresiones artísticas desempeñan un papel central en la articulación de contranarrativas que hoy pueden convertirse en dispositivos clave para sortear la encrucijada a la que han conducido las contradicciones del expansionismo occidental. De aquí que, en el marco de este encuentro, se considere a las expresiones vernáculas y alternativas, ya sea de ascendencia indígena o afrodescendiente, no como vestigios de un mundo extinto sino como los fundamentos de uno por venir. El principal eje de reflexión gira, por lo tanto, en torno a la idea de que esos saberes y lenguajes estéticos pueden contener respuestas a los múltiples interrogantes de nuestra época.

Dentro de este marco general, invitamos a todxs lxs interesadxs a enviar resúmenes para presentaciones individuales de aproximadamente 20 minutos. Entre otros, posibles temas o líneas de análisis que se consideran relevantes son:

• Afrofuturismos, latinofuturismos y futurismos indígenas 

• Teorías y conceptos situados: cuerpo-territorio, quilombo, ch’ixi, santería, quipus, terricidio, quilombo, etc. 

• Arte precario, arte de la tierra, ecopoesía, antiespecismo.

• Usos, apropiaciones y revalorizaciones de saberes y estéticas vernáculos en las literaturas y las artes.

• Estéticas y filosofías poshumanistas, biocéntricas, no binarias. 

• Artivismos indígenas, de la negritud y mestizos. 

• Literaturas en lenguas vernáculas, menores e híbridas. 

• Literaturas orales. Soportes y circulaciones alternativas. 

• Saberes y feminismos bastardos. 

• Diálogos, transferencias, confluencias a nivel translocal – América Latina, África, Asia. 
• Diálogos, transferencias, confluencias entre América Latina y los países nórdicos.

• Mapeo de líneas de pensamiento, escritura, arte o activismo marginalizadas e invisibilizadas.

Las propuestas, en castellano, portugués o lenguas originarias, deben incluir: título, resumen de no más de 250 palabras, entre 3 y 5 palabras clave, nombre, vínculo institucional y dirección de correo electrónico; y se deben enviar por correo electrónico a redes3@hi.is antes del 15 de enero 2026.

The REDES Conference promotes exchange among Latin Americanists based in the Nordic region and colleagues working in the Americas, Europe, and beyond. After the first meeting in Gothenburg, Sweden, and the second in Trondheim, Norway, the third conference in Reykjavík reaffirms our commitment to a broad, decentered, and ongoing forum focused on Latin American literary and cultural studies.

Theme: Reimagining the Future: Counter‑hegemonic Aesthetics and Epistemologies in Latin America.

This meeting focuses on literary and artistic forms of knowledge developed against—or in tension with—the ciudad letrada (“lettered city”) and on their potential to respond to the polycrisis generated by the modern/colonial project and the Capitalocene. Understanding these languages requires questioning Western‑rooted theoretical frameworks and revalidating ancestral, non‑Western knowledges and practices. Latin America offers fertile ground for subaltern epistemologies that challenge the coloniality of knowledge, being, and power. In this context, literature, cultural practices, and artistic expressions articulate counter‑narratives that may be key to navigating the crossroads produced by Western expansionism. Within this framework, vernacular and alternative expressions are not vestiges of an extinct world but foundations of one yet to come. The conference proceeds from the premise that these knowledges and aesthetic languages may offer answers to the multiple questions of our time. 

We invite abstracts for 20‑minute individual presentations. Possible topics include (but are not limited to): 

• Afrofuturisms, Latinofuturisms, and Indigenous futurisms. 

• Situated theories and concepts: body‑territory, terracide, quilombo, ch’ixi, santería, quipus, etc. 

• Precarious art, land art, ecopoetry, antispeciesism. 

• Uses, appropriations, and revaluations of vernacular knowledges and aesthetics in literature and the arts. 

• Posthumanist, biocentric, and nonbinary aesthetics and philosophies. 

• Indigenous, Black, and mestizo artivisms. 

• Literatures in vernacular, minority and hybrid languages. 

• Oral literatures; alternative platforms and distribution networks. 

• Bastard knowledges and feminisms. 

• Translocal dialogues, transfers, and convergences—Latin America, Africa, Asia. 
• Dialogues, transfers, and convergences between Latin America and Nordic countries.

• Mapping marginalized and invisibilized lines of thought, writing, art, or activism.

In addition to proposals engaging the main thematic axis, REDES also welcomes submissions on cultural, literary, and artistic relations between Latin America and the Nordic countries. 

Proposals (in Spanish, Portuguese or Indigenous languages) must include: title; an abstract of no more than 250 words; 3–5 keywords; author name(s); institutional affiliation(s); and email address(es). Please send proposals by email to redes3@hi.is by January 15, 2026.
